Barriere is a community located 66 kilometers or 45 minutes on the Yellowhead Highway #5 north of Kamloops. Barriere has a small city centre consisting of basic shopping, medical and professional services, a few restaurants, building centre, Interior Savings Credit union and other smaller businesses. Barriere does have both an elementary and secondary school in the community servicing it's students. Barriere has urban residential properties and rural acreages, it is known for it's beautiful scenery, white sand beaches on it's lakes and world class recreational activities such as snowmobiling and ATV riding.
Barriere draws a number of tourists into the community in the warmer months. Nearby North and East Barriere lakes have recreational properties that are heavily used in the Spring and Summer months. And don't forget the very popular Thompson Valley Rodeo held in Barriere on the Labor Day long weekend annually.
